WorkAble Occupational Health is an independent, doctor-led occupational health practice, and a family-run business established in 2019 by our Medical Director, Dr Greg Palka, an experienced occupational health physician.

Our mission is to provide responsible, reliable, and expert occupational health services at fair and transparent prices for local employers in Bristol, Newport, and across the UK. As a small business, we offer minimal overheads, instant booking, and quick turnaround times. We typically issue reports within 2-3 days and provide certificates on the same day as the appointment.

Our Services

We provide flexible and convenient services, including in-person consultations in our occupational health clinics in Bristol (BS34) and Chepstow (NP16), as well as remote assessments via telephone or video, offering national coverage. For larger groups, our team delivers on-site services across the UK.
Our clients may choose from ad-hoc appointments or bespoke occupational health service agreements.

Occupational health consultations

Our experienced occupational health doctors offer a comprehensive range of occupational health services, including pre-placement checks for new starters, assessments of fitness for work, sickness absence management, advice on return to work plans and workplace adjustments, medical redeployment, and ill-health retirement as well as guidance on the Equality Act 2010. We pride ourselves on delivering direct, responsive and tailored advice to help employers create safe and productive workplaces, promote employee health and wellbeing and reduce health-related costs.

Statutory Health Surveillance

Our doctors are appointed by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) to conduct statutory health surveillance. This includes asbestos medicals, ionising radiation medicals, lead medicals, Tier 4 Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) examinations, noise-induced hearing loss advice and other services.

We offer guidance on respiratory and skin health surveillance, whole-body vibration risk assessments, and support for employers on reportable occupational health conditions under RIDDOR regulations.

Health Promotion and Wellbeing

We offer a range of bespoke health promotion programmes at our Bristol clinic, remotely or on-site across the UK. Our programmes address various topics, helping employees’ wellbeing. Some topics include awareness and management, the benefits of physical activity, smoking cessation support, cardiovascular health, and tailored initiatives such as burnout prevention and menopause awareness.  We will work with your company to understand your specific needs and create tailored strategies to improve overall employee health and productivity.

About Us: Our OH Story

The practice was established in 2019 by Dr Greg Palka, who leads the majority of our clinics. Dr Palka holds an MSc in Occupational Medicine from the University of Manchester and is an associate member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.

Greg is an experienced occupational health physician and the Medical Director of Workable Occupational Health. He is an HSE-appointed doctor authorised to conduct statutory medical surveillance, including asbestos medicals, radiation medicals, lead and COSHH medicals. He is also a certified HAVS medical examiner, Oil and Energy UK (OGUK) medical examiner, and a Medical Review Officer for drug and alcohol testing.

Before founding Workable Occupational Health, Greg worked for the largest occupational health providers and smaller OH businesses across the UK, gaining extensive experience in a wide range of sectors and settings.

He has expertise across a wide range of occupational health issues such as workplace stress, mental health problems, musculoskeletal health, noise-induced hearing loss, HAVS, and health promotion. He also has a special interest in supporting businesses with ill-health retirement (IHR) cases. Dr Palka has contributed to the Society of Occupational Medicine guidelines on ill-health retirement and has published work on workplace stress management. While Dr Palka leads most of our clinics, we collaborate with a network of experienced occupational health physicians to provide additional support when required and ensure seamless service

Greg is bilingual in English and Polish, allowing us to directly support Polish-speaking employees.
