Dr Greg Palka MD, AFOM, MSc OccMed, graduated from Jagiellonian University School of Medicine in Kraków, Poland, and completed his occupational health training in the UK.

Health and communication

Discussing health and work is most comfortable in your first language. Polish-speaking employees can have their full consultation, examination and report discussion in Polish. The reports are prepared in English.

Our ability to undertake OH consultations in English or Polish helps ensure effective, accurate communication. It also reduces additional costs and misunderstandings or challenges with medical histories in Polish. Polish-speaking employees feel heard, understood, and professionally supported.

All appointments are available in English and Polish

✓ Management referrals — fitness for work, return to work, adjustments, prognosis

✓ Sickness absence, capability, and ill-health retirement advice

✓ Pre-employment health screening

✓ Safety-critical medicals — offshore (OEUK), asbestos, HAVS, ionising radiation, DVLA Group 1 and 2

✓ On-site visits to your workplace (peripatetic service, fees apply)

✓ Self-referrals accepted

All assessments, in English or Polish, comply with the Faculty of Occupational Medicine’s Good Occupational Medical Practice, the Equality Act 2010, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, COSHH 2002, and UK GDPR.

The HSE classifies non-English-speaking employees as vulnerable workers and expects employers to make suitable communication arrangements. GMC Good Medical Practice (Domain 2) requires physicians to meet patients’ language needs. A bilingual assessment meets both duties and often resolves long-standing cases where communication difficulties have blocked progress.

Occupational health regulations differ between Poland and the UK. Polish employment law requires periodic face-to-face examinations with locally registered physicians. We do not issue certificates valid under Polish law.

For Polish-speaking employees working in the UK, all our services apply in full.
